The other day, my friend and photographer, Lars Kastilan, and I had a fun spontaneous shoot along the streets of the Kruununhaka neighbourhood in Helsinki. Inspired from my recent trip back home to Kenya, I wanted to showcase the beauty of Kenyan and African print design using garments that would translate easily and make sense in the Northern European capital.

Here are a few of the pictures from the shoot.

Now I have an assignment for you. Comment below (where it says Leave a Comment) and tell me about your favorite aspect of African print in fashion. The winner will receive a fashion accessory featured in the shoot! 🙂 Contest ends on Tuesday, September 30th.

Stay fierce y’all. Om ❤ and Hujambo to all the #afrofashionistas out there!

  1. I love my African prints, you can wear them with any single Colour top or bottom and some nice flats and heels, throw on a colorful print and BAM! You will stand out from the crowd, you can never go wrong with African prints!

  2. African prints are unique, vivacious and show you have a creative spirit& open mind, not just a drone dressing in h&m threads like everyone else…:)

  3. Most of the African prints I have are sewn and made by mum. I love how being so far, I feel like each item I wear from her is like a virtual hug of her love. When I get comments on how people love the prints or colour. I smile because it was made with love. African Prints to me are a symbol of love and giving.

  4. And the winner of the Nairobi X Helsinki African Print contest is…
